I filed my 485 in July 11th and have received the 485 receipts. There is a possibility that I might get laid off before Jan 11 (180 days). My H1 B expires Nov 2008.
Questions
1. Can I stay legally in US if I get laid off in Oct 07 ?
2. How can I proceed with my Green Card process ?
I think this might be a repeat question, but would still like to get your thoughts.

Is it possible to upgrade from EB3 to EB2, if person is working on EAD after AC21 is invoked and H1 is expired?
I believe it is possible if your company is willing to do it. Having said that, you would be better off asking this question to a qualified lawyer.

Got the same letter from USCIS asking for $5000. If they are asking all the people who sent this request the this kind of money... I wonder how much money they are expecting from this "Program Writing" thing??? IV and We all have to question this insane tactics and this needs to be exposed to press and politicians. I don't think Murthy or AILA or some others do any benefit to us it is already proven many times.

As soon as $10k is reached, I will contribute, $50.
When $13k is reached, I will contribute another $50.
And when $20k is reached, I will contribute another $50.
This, of course, is in addition to the recurring contributions that I already make.
Everyone, please take initiative in this effort.
We spend thousands of dollars and years waiting for our green cards, why is it so hard to realize that this is only to help ourselves?.
These contributions are more or at least as important as our car payments, mortgage, or educational loans. This effort will only ensure (by giving us our well deserved GCs) that we can stay here on a permanent basis and not have to be sent back home (or is it really home?, for so many of us who have spent close to a decade or longer, here) at the slightest disturbance in the economy.

I am afraid my analysis reflect the reality. I have heard a number of people talking about this and polls have shown that is the case. Iraq war & scandals were the driving force behind this. Nothing else. Even liberal newspapers such as The Nation report that is the case:
